Dare to Let Go
This scripture is powerful all by itself;
“God brought you alive—right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets” Colossians 2:13–15 Msg.
You and I both know that the Bible is not restricted to a specific time or place, but one of the coolest things to learn is how the Word sets in the context of the time that it happened—when it happened.
I am reading this book called “The Spirit of Python.” In it, the author Jentezen Franklin writes about the lies Satan uses to try to take our life away, the same way a Python does. If you are like me and EVERY snake makes you think of the enemy of our souls, then I highly recommend reading it!
As I read this, I just knew I had to share it with you!
Did you know that during the time of the Roman occupation a person who was convicted in a Roman court would have a certificate of debt prepared? “It was a list of every crime the person was accused of committing. It would then be taken with the prisoner to wherever he would be imprisoned and nailed to the door of the cell. 📜
What an illustration the apostle Paul used to show how God dealt with our sins. When Jesus hung on the cross two thousand years ago, the certificate of debt of every person who would ever live was nailed to the cross with Him. Our certificate of debt listed every sin. Just as the certificate would have been nailed to the cell of the criminal, Jesus took our certificate of debt and nailed it to the cross. Why? To pay the debt of our sin. According to Roman law, when a person was put in prison and the certificate of debt was nailed to the door, it would remain there until the sentence was carried out. Then they would take the certificate and write across it the word meaning “IT IS FINISHED.” They would roll it up and give it to the prisoner, and he could never be punished for those crimes again.
Just before Jesus bowed His head and said, “Father, into your hands, I commit My spirit,” He gave a victory cry and said, “It is finished!” (John 19:30). The Greek word for this is teleo, meaning “paid in full.” Jesus took our certificate of debt and wrote across it with His own blood, “It is finished,” paid in full*”
Serious mind blown here! 🔥🔥
When we look at what Jesus did from that perspective, we gotta get excited! It’s like in the American court system, what we call, double jeopardy.
Yet what does the enemy do? He brings up those old debts over and over again. He tries to convince us that we are still in debt. It is a stone-cold lie! 🐍🐍
No more my friend! You and I have to stand up and say, enough. That debt is paid, in full, IT IS FINISHED. 🤩
Today I want to encourage you–DARE YOU to let go of the things from your past. If you have already asked for forgiveness, it is over. If you haven’t then do it now and know you ARE forgiven! ❤️
The time has come to stop living in the past and look toward the future. The future you and ONLY you were created to live. 🙌🙌
