Tip Tuesday: 5 tips for Healthy Summer Hair Care
I don’t know how your hair responds to heat, but my hair likes to frizz. I live in Florida, and as the days get longer and hotter, my hair dries out– FAST.
So what can you do about it? Here are the five tips I use to help care for my Summer hair!
Wash your hair ONLY when needed
This one is pretty controversial and as someone who is pretty used to washing my hair every other day at minimum, but now I’ve discovered a great new friend. Dry shampoo. Yes, this is a thing! I didn’t start using it until last October after I had surgery and it was difficult to get around, but now I use it all the time! I’ve even been known to use it to give my hair body after letting it air dry. (See more about that in tip number 3.) I’ve used a few different brands, like, Not Your Mother’s Plump for Joy Thickening Dry Shampoo, and Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo. My favorite is THE ONE BY FREDERIC FEKKAI One More Day Dry Shampoo because it doesn’t weight my hair down. It also has a light fragrance that smells great!
Use an anti-frizz lotion
I use Redken Curvaceous Ringlet Anti-Frizz Perfecting Hair Treatment Lotion because it doesn’t feel sticky or weigh down my hair. Also, a little bit goes a long way! I just put a little bit on the ends.
Use a good shampoo and conditioner when washing your hair
You may have heard about Monat; it is a great hair care product that helps heal your hair. My friend Tiffany is a Monat partner, and she sent me some samples! If you look at this before and after pictures, you can see the difference. After just one wash, I felt my hair come back to life. The best part is that it doesn’t have a lot of harmful ingredients or too much water in it. A little bit goes a long way.
You can visit her Facebook page by going to Monat-Hair-Addicts, tell her I sent you and she will hook you up!
Let your hair air dry or use a diffuser
I know that there are some pretty expensive blowdryers out there, but I don’t think that you need to spend too much on one. I have a Conair, like this one pictured. There are two things I look for when purchasing a blow dryer. 1) It is an “Ionic Ceramic” and 2) it has the diffuser on it. In case you are wondering the diffuser is the one that is round and attaches to the end of your blow dryer. If you already have a good blow-dryer, you can also purchase a universal attachment. I found this one on Amazon for $12.95. I like it because it seems like it will attach to the end without issues.
I used to feel that diffusers were a waste of time, but now I realize that it helps my hair not to frizz as much. (Hey, it is Florida, so frizz is almost guaranteed especially if you have frizzy hair.)
Mind what you eat and drink
One of the most important things you can do for your hair is to drink enough water, eat healthily, and make sure you get all the vitamins your body needs. You might be wondering why this matters, but according to “H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry” (158), “the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.” Water does a body good.
My friend Hannah can help you out in this department. She offers a great product that can help with this you can contact her on her Facebook page! Please let her know I sent you.
So that’s it, five tips for taking care of your hair during these coming hot summer months. Can you think of other things that you can do to help keep your hair healthy?
Remember in all that you do, be unique, be you.
